Issue One: Blessings
Being first generation Asian-Australian, I always knew that I was different and going to be different to the average Australian - I looked different to a good majority of the people I grew up with in school, instead of a toasted sandwich and an apple for lunch, I had fried rice or noodles (just as examples of some of the differences as a kid).
As I got older, I struggled with my own identity and were asking questions like what does it mean to be Asian? Am I Asian? Am I Australian? What does it mean to be Australian?
These were fundamental questions that perhaps everyone struggles with - I know I certainly still do and probably will for the rest of life. But there’s one thing I know for sure - I am fortunate and blessed to grow up with the best of both worlds and that is what has made me who I am today.
